I’ve personally used 1&1 Hosting for my dedicated servers as well as simple website hosting. 

They have 24/7 phone support which I feel is of major importance when chosing a hosting company. I’ve called their support line on a number of occassions and have found the staff to be knowledgable and friendly. I have to admit that there seems to be certain times of the day that it’s more difficult to get through on the phone. I haven’t used the chat feature, but I assume it’s handled in the same professional manner.

Pricing at 1&1 seems to be in line with, if not less expensive than, most of their competitors.

In addition to vanilla web hosting accounts, 1&1 also provides Virtual Private Server (VPS) accounts, Cloud Server accounts, and Dedicated Servers.  And, unlike some of their competitors they support  Windows servers as well as Linux.
