Review of Aweber

Starting with signup I found Aweber easy to use. Unlike the competitors, they charge you for the first month, a whole dollar.

But from a marketing point of view it’s very smart. They have your credit card and at the end of the trial period they automatically charge your card for the full monthly fees. By the way, I put in things that aren’t strictly a review of the product but marketing thoughts, because I love marketing. And, Aweber is very good at it.

Set Up Wizard

Once you have an account, you’ll find a Setup Wizard at the bottom of the page. It will take you through the steps to set up your account and create your first list and first email(s) to the list.

It starts by having you set up a list – identifying the list name and description. There are videos for each step of the process as well as written documentation. I personally prefer written documentation as it’s faster to get started rather than watching long winded videos.

The step-by-step instructions are easy to follow and building up what you need for your list doesn’t take long. For me, the hardest part is coming up with the verbiage, the text, for your messages.

Default Messages

Aweber offers templates for default messages, like the double optin message, success signing up and messages like that. The actual email messages that are part of your sequence are up to you, unlike Infusionsoft.

It’s quite easy to set up the email sequences once you’ve established the list and you can have as many messages as you want in each list. It’s a very step-by-step process if you have the emails already written.

Email Signup Forms

One of the things I liked best about Aweber is their sign up form. Instead of a plain vanilla form that displays on your web page, they have numerous templates to choose from. The advantage of this, at least in my mind, is you can be creative and split test two different designs to see which one gets the most signups.

Copying Sequences

One thing they allow, that I think is a great idea, is the ability to copy messages from one list to another. And after copying you can modify the messages to exactly fit the list. This is very convenient and time saving if you have two, or more, list that send the same or similar information to the subscribers.

One Time Emails

In addition to the autoresponder sequences, you can send one-time emails. They call then broadcast emails. This would be for a newsletter or a special sale or something of that ilk. A one time touch to your email list.

Tracking Responses

If you have links in your emails, like to your web pages or special offers, Aweber tracks the clicks so you know who clicked and how many people clicked which helps you determine the effectiveness of your emails.

Overall Impression

I think that Aweber is a winner. It’s easy to set up, appears to have enough options:

  • autoresponder sequences
  • broadcast emails
  • copying sequences
  • setting up sign up forms
